When: April 2008 through March 2009
Goal: To read 6-12 books starring characters found in or inspired by Arthurian legends. (King Arthur, Guinevere, Lancelot, Merlin, Lady of the Lake, etc.)
How: To sign up, leave a comment on this post. It’s quick and simple. Just announce your intention to participate.
Rules: I don’t really believe in having many rules.
No lists are necessary. You can change your mind on WHAT you reading or should that be WHO you’re reading at any time.
If at any time you dislike a book, then feel free to discard it and pick up another. Don’t feel obligated to push through a book you don’t like on my account!!!
What about movies? What about graphic novels? What about comics? What about audio books? Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. All of those things count. So though it says 6-12 books. It can be a variety of things–book, movie, tv show, comic book, graphic novel, etc.
Kids books. YA books. Adult books. All count.
What about series books? Or series books in all-in-one editions? I’m leaving it up to you. For example, some might consider The Once and Future King to count as one book. Some might consider it to be four separate books. I’m probably going to count it as four books for my challenge. You can do the same. If your goal is six books, and you want four of them to be The Once and Future King, then that is fine with me. I won’t call you a cheater-pants.
What about short stories or poetry? Yes and yes. Anything really can go.
What about rereads? Sure why not!
What about books read prior to April 1, 2008? It depends. Use your judgment. I reviewed one the last week of March. (March 2008). I’m planning on using it towards the challenge. I wouldn’t search your posts too far back though. So if you read it in 2008, then that’s okay. But any further back, and we might call you a cheater-pants.
What about reviews? I’ll be doing Mr. Linky most likely. If not, I’ll do it the old fashioned way. You can leave a link if you’ve got a blog. Or you could write a review in the comments. This could be a sample review for those hesitant to write and share. “I read The Sword in the Stone. I liked it. Would recommend to others.” It can be really short and sweet and simple. Title of the book. Name of the author. A few adjectives describing how you felt about it. If you enjoyed it. It’s so not a big deal.

I went thru a phase where all I read about was Arthur, lets see if I can read a few more. Maybe 6, probably hot 12
I’m in though I have no idea what I’ll be reading.
oooooooooooooo this one is even more challenging then all the others I’ve been seeing! I’m going to think seriously about joining this one. So many books and sooo little time!!!

I want to join this!
Ahhh you got me! I’ve only just set up my blog and started investigating challenges, but this certainly caught my eye as I’ve just read Isolde but Rosalind Miles!
Count me in!
I’m up for this one, too, and have already started thinking about the books I might read!

Oh Yes please sign me up for this challenge too!
I will post my list later today on my blog.
Also I am trying to talk my husband (who is a Huge Arthurian fan too) into joining.
He wants to know if reading Camelot 3000 can count.
Hehehe, by the way the two of us will be romping through England soon and plan to visit Glastonbury Tur and some of the other Arthurian/Merlin sites.
Paula, welcome to the challenge! I hope your husband will join us as well. Yes, Camelot 3000 can count towards the challenge
One of my keeper shelves is a collection of Arthurian legend in whatever format I find them. This is going to be a hellah cool challenge!
Now my link is in here somewhere to my Challenge blog site…..

I just love your challenge ideas! Count me in as well!
I’ve been meaning to re-read Mary Stewart’s 4-part trilogy for a while. This is my perfect excuse. Philip Reeve’s “Here lies Arthur” is book 5 meaning I have only one more book to find. Count me in!
This challenge sounds like fun, may I join? I have a few Camelot books I’ve been meaning to read…
Whit, welcome to the challenge! I’m happy you’ve joined!
Hi,
I came across this randomly on the internet. I do believe I’ll join. I’ve been meaning to read Malory’s Le Morte d’Arthur… Hmm, that’s divided into several books, maybe I can count each individually?
Meh, I’ll probably end up reading a half dozen of Gilbert Morris’ books.
Personal ramblings aside, cool idea.
-Captain Stormfield (aka Ethan, for what it’s worth)
I’m going to try this one too!
Yes please! Sign me up!

Just found this, love anything Arthurian so looking forward to this challenge
I do love a good Arthurian story, so I’ve signed up (a little late!)
I would like to join as well!
I heard about this on A Novel Challenge at Yahoo.

I FINALLY found my way here. I know that you have me signed up already, but I want to make myself offical. Since I belong to the Yahoo! book group Renditions of Camelot, I thought why not do the challenge?
If people are interested in joining an Arthur book group, I belong to Renditions of Camelot at Yahoo! groups. Just look it up in Yahoo!’s groups directory. May as well read for more than one group! Judy

I’ll sign up too- I am tracking my reading on Library Things to see how many more than 100 books I read in a year (doesn’t count craft and how-to books; might coount re-reads) so this gives me another source of titles. Since I’m already wishing I could read more than I do, I may not need any more suggestions. But I will join anyway!!
How lucky that I came across this challenge just when I decided I wanted to read The Once and Future King for the 1st time! I’m late to the group, so I may not make the goal, but I’m excited to have the commitment!
Is it too late to join in? I love Arthurian lit!
I just found out about your challenge. I’ve been reading Arthurian books for many years. I’m mainly interested in medieval books, though–Geoffrey of Monmouth, Chrétien de Troyes, Sir Thomas Malory, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. Do they count?
Yes, Mark. They’d count
I hope you join in the fun!
I finally got back. What do I do now? (Sorry to sound so ignorant–I’m kind of new to blogs.)
Mark, you just read however many books you want for the challenge between now and the end date (in March 2009). If you have a blog, you can review them. But blogs are not a requirement by any means. And reviews aren’t a requirement either. You can just come to the site and leave comments now and then to give updates on when you finish books. Whatever works best for you.
I’d like to commit to 6 books.
I just fixed my blog. I’m raiding my bookshelves.
I am posting my year ends early, as I have no blog nor will I be around then.
1. Sutcliff, Rosemary The Light Beyond the Forest
2. Sutcliff, Rosemary The Sword and the Circle
3. Hastings, Selina Sir Gawain and the Loathly Lady
4. Hodles, Margaret Merlin and the Making of the King
6. Hodges, Margaret The Kitchen Knight
7. Osborne, Mary Pope Haunted Castle on Hallow;s Eve

Are you going to repeat this challenge in 2009? Judy
